Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
Corporations and organizations have long hired storytellers to promote understanding among diverse groups. That's because a strong link exists between storytelling and respect for those of other cultures, broadly known today as Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). For one thing, it's been said that you can't hate someone once you know their story. In fact, you come to appreciate that person's shared humanity.
In addition, storytellers know that the very same age-old folktales exist (albeit in slightly different forms and with different names) in every culture throughout the globe. The reason they are the underpinnings of contemporary fiction, film, video games, etc. is that they resonate with people on a deep, primal level. When people come to understand that we all grew up with and respond to the same stories they come to see that they are much more alike than different.
